Master Grant Proposals

How Grant Writing Contributes to an Overall Fundraising Strategy

Grant writing is a fundamental phase of fundraising for organizations and individuals seeking financial support for projects of all sizes and complexity. During the planning stages of organization development, projects are outlined and potential funding sources are identified. The next step is to draft a base proposal that describes the project and why it is needed, the required funding, and information about the organization. Then the proposal can be tailored to meet the criteria of each potential funder.

Seeking Out Potential Funders and the Courting Process

Understanding funding sources and research channels facilitates seeking out potential funders.  Once the basic proposal template has been developed and potential funders have been identified, the courting process begins which may consist of contacting potential funders for specific submission guidelines, phone or in-person meetings to introduce the organization and project to the prospective funder, and written informational updates.  The process of securing grant funding is involved and often several months long and requires a long-term commitment that goes beyond securing funding to managing project updates throughout the term of the funding contract.
